867671608_507e3ae9de We are not sure what the typical policy for police departments is for dealing with a woman in labor, but one might expect something along the lines of “escort patient’s vehicle to hospital with lights and sirens” or something similarly useful.

Apparently not for the Massachusetts State Police and certainly not for Trooper Michael Galluccio.  In Galluccio’s case, you just have to be a real douchebag.

Jennifer Davis was stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on Nov. 18, her contractions just 3 minutes apart. Her husband, John, was trying to appear calm for his wife’s sake, driving in the breakdown lane of Route 2. They pulled up behind a state trooper to ask whether they could continue using the lane to reach the next exit, near Alewife Station.

Not only did the trooper say no, he gave them a $100 citation for driving in the breakdown lane, made them wait for their citation while he finished writing someone else’s ticket, and even seemed to ask for proof of pregnancy, Jennifer Davis said.

“He said, ‘What’s under your jacket?’ I said, ‘My belly,’ ” Davis said. “He waited and gestured with his head like, ‘OK, let’s see it.’ He waited for me to unzip my jacket. I mean, it was so clear that I was pregnant.”

To be fair to the MA State Police, they’re not all douchebags.  Some were actually helpful to the Davises.

But the roads were so clogged that John Davis began using the breakdown lane. Davis – whose driving record has six speeding violations over the past 20 years, according to the state Registry of Motor Vehicles – said he tried to get troopers’ permission to use the emergency lanes when they encountered them along their journey.

On Route 3, he pulled over and told a trooper that his wife was in labor. The trooper said they could use the breakdown lane only when traffic was backed up and only while using their hazard lights. On Route 128, they got stopped by a second trooper who allowed them to continue in the breakdown lane after noticing the infant car seat in the back of their Honda Accord and the mother’s condition.

“I know people fabricate stories all the time,” Jennifer Davis said, “but it was pretty clear that I was in labor.”

Trooper Michael Galluccio, keep up the good work, douchebag.

Typical Mass State Trooper. They are the most arrogant, self serving douchebags in the country. I bet he’s a little fellow with esteem issues.

Well – not only are they classic douchebags like this one who stopped a pregnant lady in labor and then tried to verify if she was pregnant – like he’s a doctor … some are outright racists too.

I remember being approached by a police officer as I was leaning against my vehicle while I was smoking and was warned about loitering. When I told him that I was staying at the hotel (Wyndham downtown) across the street and that the vehicle he caught me loitering around belonge to me – he made me open it up and verify the registration.

I guess brownies shouldn’t be caught driving anything better than an ’86 Chevy Shitbox in Boston :) . I just keep away from them. While they are not all like that – the fact that most of them seem to be douchebags worries me to the point that I don’t wanna know which ones are normal.

I’m sorry Mr. Rosenberg and whoever it is that runs this website, but you know nothing about Trooper Galluccio. I’ve interacted with Galluccio in his capacity as a reserve military officer and he’s one of the nicest people I know. I’m trying to understand your necessity to constantly find someone to hate or something to complain about, but Galluccio is simply not the right target. I guess if you hate people who love their job and serve honorably in the military then that’s your own problem. Perhaps you’d hate him even more if you knew that he has a law degree and could be making a lot more money somewhere else, but loves being a state trooper. Oh, he’s a lawyer? Now I hate him even worse. Get a life!

What is it with this unthinking police/military/uniform homage nonsense. Ever heard of the emporers new clothes., Abu Graib, Rodney King, New Orleans police staling cars after Katrina etc etc. Whats this love your job nonsense. I love my job but when I see idiotic decision making I point it out, perhaps because I am not brain dead I can make sensible decisions based on the situations needs.

That cop should be fired, no pension, no pay off, fired, fired, fired fired. He is a moron. he is the worst example of a police officer and the tax payers who pays this clowns wages should actively pursue his downfall. For example how we he react if his wife was in labour and some dullard stopped him getting to the hospital.

All I’m saying is that you’ve heard one side of the story and then you want to rip Galluccio apart limb by limb like a crazy mob. It’s ridiculous to compare this to Abu Graib, Rodney King, etc. There’s no comparison. Obviously nothing I say will ever change your opinion. Just remember there’s always two sides to a story.

    So…

    Guy sees TWO state troopers…

    Follows their instructions

And gets ticketed for this by a third trooper.

Yeah, we don’t have an outlier there…

The fact that the trooper gave this couple a ticket is wrong. The fact that he pulled them over in the breakdown lane is correct( the other troopers should not have allowed them to continue without an escort) If someone was injured/killed in the breakdown lane because of this couple’s decision to drive an hour from their home to a “better hospital”, everyone here would still be criticizing the State Police. My father was almost killed because someone rear ended him in the breakdown lane. People forget the cops hear every excuse in the world, so his double checking the status of her pregnancy is a little arrogant, but none the less, still part of his job. He offered this woman an ambulance twice. People love to hate the police.

What a worthless asshole. The new parents should sue the city.

    1. Husband with 6 priors for excessive speed.
-> Irrelevant. This was an emergency.

    2. Woman pregnant for 8 months.
-> 8 months and in labor? Emergency.

    3. 5 hospitals capable of care passed.
-> Irrelevant. A woman having a preemie needs HER doctor.

    4. Rush hour traffic.
    -> Duh.

    5. Driving in the Emergency Lane.
    -> Again, duh.

    6. Using excessive speed.
-> I don’t think it was excessive at all, given the circumstances.

    7. Mother delivers baby more than half a day later.
-> Irrelevant. An emergency is an emergency. Hindsight.

    8. No loss of life, husband, mother and baby safe.
-> Getting away with something does not make it safe.

    9. No accidents caused.
-> Whether or not they were stopped. Yes.

    10. Trooper justified, deserves commendation.
-> Trooper is a gung-ho douchebag who dodged a bullet.

Trooper Michael Galluccio, stop posting the “top 10″ on websites that are calling you out

  12. Gnute on December 10th, 2008 10:48 pm

It’s well she did not deliver right then and there. The poor child might have been tased as it was sneaking out of hiding to be a threat.

What Trooper Gallucio needs is nine months of pregnancy and then to meet himself as midwife during labor.

  13. Ghost on April 4th, 2009 2:30 am

    1. Husband with 6 priors for excessive speed.

…in 20 years. Finish the quote.

    2. Woman pregnant for 8 months.

Ever been with someone in labor?

    3. 5 hospitals capable of care passed.

If it was YOUR wife, wouldn’t you want the best treatment available?

    4. Rush hour traffic.

    So?

    5. Driving in the Emergency Lane.

    Um… it was an emergency.

    6. Using excessive speed.

How fast was he driving? This article doesn’t say.

    7. Mother delivers baby more than half a day later.

Labor isn’t exact. Labor times differ for every woman. For all anyone knew, she could have had the child 5 minutes after being stopped. Therefore, your point is irrelevant.

    8. No loss of life, husband, mother and baby safe.

Thank God. What if there had been complications in the labor, while she was waiting for this duechebag to write the OTHER people’s ticket? What if she had died from them? By your logic, it’s all right to drive drunk, as long as nobody gets hurt. Brilliant.

    9. No accidents caused.

What does this have to do with anything?

    10. Trooper justified, deserves commendation.

False. The trooper was clearly NOT justified in making them wait while he wrote out a ticket for someone else, especially since the woman was clearly in labor (contractions less than 3 minutes apart are quite noticeable). Even if he was in the right, he certainly does not deserve any commendation for a minor traffic stop.

Please remember to look at all the facts before you call someone a “douchebag”. Remember there is a side to everything.

From your comments, you sound suspiciously like a friend of this Douchebag (notice the capitol “D”? Yes, he is such a colossal douchebag, that a lowercase “D” would be insufficient), if not the Douchebag himself. Yes, there are 2 sides of the story, but the side you present seems biased.

    Good day, sir.
