Army Major Charged With Bribery

United States Army Major John Cockerham and his wife, Melissa, have been arrested on charges of accepting bribes, defrauding the United States, money laundering, and conspiracy. In all, Cockerham, employed as a contracting and procurement officer for the Navy has allegedly received more than $9.6 million in kickbacks, and was expected to receive almost $6 million more, prior to the arrest.
According to this Newsday.com article:
“The bribe payments included hundreds of thousands of dollars of cash delivered to Melissa Cockerham and others in bags and briefcases. Investigators say many of the payments occurred in 2005, and the money was deposited in banks in the Middle East and then moved to banks in the Caribbean.”
