Hassan Nemazee: Everything That’s Wrong With How The Dems Fundraise

Perhaps the central failure of Democrats to realize economic realities can be traced to the people central to their fundraising. Ben Smith reports on yet another Democrat fundraiser running afoul of the law.

Hassan Nemazee, a former finance chairman of Chuck Schumer’s Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and top Hillary Clinton fundraiser, has been charged and arrested on for allegedly trying to defraud Citibank of $74 million by offering fake collateral on a loan.

Nemazee is following in the footsteps of some other crooks who helped get Dems elected, like Norman Hsu, who encouraged his Ponzi scheme victims to contribute to Democrat campaigns using their names but his money.

The Nation investigated Hassan Nemazee and Alan Quasha in October 2007, in an article titled Hillary’s Mystery Money Men. In this article Russ Baker and Adam Federman examine the ties between Nemazee,  business associate Alan Quasha and Bill and Hillary Clinton and even DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe.

Now Quasha is back–on the other side of the aisle. Operating below the radar, he entered Hillary Clinton’s circle even before she declared her candidacy by quietly arranging for the hire of Clinton confidant and longtime Democratic Party money man Terry McAuliffe at one of his companies. During the interregnum between McAuliffe’s chairmanship of the Democratic Party and the time he officially joined Clinton’s campaign, Quasha’s firm set McAuliffe up with a salary and opened a Washington office for him.

Given that Democrats and their ilk seem to miraculously acquire wealth after enjoying power in public office, is it really any surprise that they don’t comprehend the private sector?
