Dems A Class Act For Kennedy
August 28, 2009 · Print This Article
While some readers were offended by our evidence that Ted Kennedy probably committed light treason in the 1980s, the Democrats have reacted to Senator Kennedy’s death with all the class of a drunk stumbling around his compound with no pants on. This may come as no surprise to those who remember Paul Wellstone’s funeral, but Democrats wasted no time to exploit Ted Kennedy’s death for their own political advantage.
Within hours of Mr Kennedy’s death on Wednesday leading Democrats were trying to turn it into a rallying point for healthcare reform — something that he had called the “cause of my life” — and suggested that any legislation should carry his name.
“[It was] the passion of his life,” David Obey, the Democratic chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, said. “Above all else, he would want us to redouble our efforts to achieve it.”
Robert Byrd, the senior Senate Democrat, called for the passage of healthcare legislation that would bear Mr Kennedy’s name, and Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House, said: “Ted Kennedy’s dream of quality healthcare for all Americans will be made real this year because of his leadership and his inspiration.”
In other words, the Democrats are that annoying relative who is knocking on the door asking about their inheritance before the corpse is cold.
Meanwhile, Cato reports how Democrats in the Massachusetts State House are preparing to trample the Rule of Law for the Kennedy legacy.
Lawmakers in the Bay State are rushing to change state law to make sure the late Sen. Edward Kennedy’s seat is filled as soon as possible with a reliable Democratic successor.
Never mind that as recently as 2004 the same state legislature had changed state law to mandate that a vacant Senate seat could only be filled by a special election to be held within five months of the vacancy.
Before then, as in most other states, vacancies were filled by an appointment of the governor, with the seat coming up for a vote at the next federal election. But in 2004, the Democratic legislature changed the law to prevent then-governor Mitt Romney, a Republican, from naming a Republican to replace Democratic Sen. John Kerry if he were to be elected president. Kerry lost to George W. Bush, but the law remained on the books.
Of course, the cherry on top of all this douchebaggery is Melissa Lafsky, a blogger at Huffington Post, who asks what Mary Jo Kopechne might have had to say about Ted Kennedy’s life and career.
Who knows — maybe she’d feel it was worth it.
Worth it? What was “worth it”? It’s not as though a sacrifice was made. Kennedy didn’t gain from her death. She didn’t gain from her death. Liberalism didn’t gain from her death (unless you prefer Kennedy’s 46 years in the Senate to 8 years of a Presidency). Is Lafsky referring to Kennedy’s escape from justice?
If pedophiles follow careers in the church and youth groups for advantageous position it puts them over children, then womanizers, rapists and manslaughters have little choice but join the Democratic Party, where the women will stand by their man, no matter what.
