In an effort to ease rising tensions between Muslims and Catholics, Tiny Muskins, a Catholic bishop in the Netherlands has suggested that people of all faiths should refer to God as “Allah.” According to this WorldNetDaily report:

Tiny Muskens, the bishop of Breda, told the Dutch TV program “Network” Monday night he believes God doesn’t mind what he is called, Radio Netherlands Worldwide reported. The Almighty is above such “discussion and bickering.”

Perhaps needless to mention, this proposal has met much rejection and criticism:

I’m sure his intentions are good but his theology needs a little fine-tuning,” said Father Jonathan Morris, a Roman Catholic priest based in Rome. Morris, a news analyst for FOX News Channel, also called the idea impractical.

“Words and names mean things,” Morris said. “Referring to God as Allah means something.”

Words do mean things, and they can all be summed up in this catchy tune: Islam’s Not For Me (source and lyrics: faithfreedom.org)
