McCain Smear Campaign: The Truth

February 22, 2008

John McCainAs more of the John McCain sex scandal unfolds, it is important to understand that there is a left-wing driven back story that the main stream media is choosing to ignore. No real editorial commentary here, just a worthy read from this Newsbusters.org piece:

As media digest the recent John McCain sex scandal allegations by the New York Times, one side of the story seems destined to get ignored: one of the four co-authors took money from a liberal activist group to fund a hit piece about Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Kent.) in 2006.Before becoming an investigative reporter for the Times, Pulitzer Prize winner Marilyn W. Thompson was editor of the Lexington Herald-Leader in Kentucky. As Howard Kurtz reported in October 2006, Thompson was in the middle of what one might call a pay for play hit piece against that state’s leading Republican figure (emphasis added):
Kentucky’s Lexington Herald-Leader yesterday launched an investigative series on Sen. Mitch McConnell pushing legislation for his affluent donors — an effort originally paid for by a foundation that has financed several liberal groups that oppose the Republican lawmaker. The paper’s parent firm, McClatchy Co., decided last week to repay the $35,000 grant, which underwrote six months of salary and expenses for a Herald-Leader reporter on leave. The grant came from the respected Center for Investigative Reporting, which was passing on money provided by the St. Louis-based Deer Creek Foundation.Deer Creek has funded a variety of liberal groups, including New York University law school’s Brennan Center for Justice, which represented opponents of McConnell in a campaign-finance lawsuit that reached the Supreme Court.”It’s like the NRA funding a report about Sarah Brady,” the gun-control advocate, says McConnell spokesman Don Stewart. “You’ve got to be somewhat leery about the objectivity.”

American Journalism Review coincidentally addressed this very matter in its February/March 2008 issue (emphasis added):

In 2006, as editor of the Lexington Herald-Leader in Kentucky, Marilyn W. Thompson wanted her paper to undertake a major project examining Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell’s political fundraising practices and suggestions of influence peddling. When she realized her lean newsroom budget alone wouldn’t cover it, Thompson got her Knight Ridder bosses’ enthusiastic approval to seek a grant from the nonprofit Center for Investigative Reporting. The California-based center provided $37,500 to underwrite the salary of reporter John Cheves, who took an unpaid six-month leave of absence to do the project, as well as to cover expenses.

Just before the October publication of Cheves’ four-part series, “Price Tag Politics,” McConnell staff members complained of liberal bias - at the center. They cited center board and staff members’ donations to Democratic candidates or causes. They called it “a known liberal entity, but what they seized on was the underlying funding,” Thompson remembers. In particular, the McConnell camp objected to involvement by the Deer Creek Foundation of St. Louis, which had funded groups seeking campaign finance reform. McConnell had led the fight against the bipartisan measure in Congress and in court. He was the lead plaintiff in McConnell v. Federal Election Commission, an unsuccessful U.S. Supreme Court challenge to the 2002 law.

Yet, there’s more, for in November 2007, Dan Riehl reported that at the time the Herald-Leader was working on this piece, its author, John Cheves, was a Congressional Fellow for Sen. Ron Widen (D-Oregon).Add it all up, and one of the McCain sex scandal co-authors, when she was editor of one of the leading newspapers in Kentucky, took money from a liberal activist group to hire a Democrat Congressional Fellow for a hit piece on a leading Republican senator.Seems a metaphysical certitude this will elude journalists that cover the McCain story, doesn’t it?*****Update: Check out who’s on the advisory board of the organization that funded the McConnell hit piece:

Trouble Down Under

February 22, 2008

Alternate title: “A dingo ate my pee-pee”

First, look at this picture:
Tranny
Now read the article:

(It’s very troubling what passes as a woman these days…)

A MAN told by police that his girlfriend “was a bloke” said he felt disgusted, disturbed and deceived after the discovery, a court heard today.

Garrick Jacobson said he had been going out with Brigitte Fell on and off for three weeks when he was told at Surry Hills Police Station that she was “indeed a man”.

“I was just disgusted and disturbed,” he told Downing Centre Local Court.

“I felt deceived … because the female I’d been with was a male, had a sex change.”

Jacobson was giving evidence at a hearing for Constables Tyrone Stacey and Brendan Ritson, who are accused of breaching privacy laws over the incident.

They have pleaded not guilty to unlawfully disclosing information about Ms Fell on September 24, 2006.

Earlier, the court heard that Stacey told a supervising officer the next day he made a “genuine mistake” in telling Jacobson that his girlfriend was “a transvestite”.

Stacey had arrested Jacobson, 26, for allegedly stealing beer and assaulting a pub manager.

Sitting handcuffed in the witness box, Jacobson said he was in custody at the police station when he learned that Ms Fell had been a man.

“I was told the information by one of the police officers,” he said.

“They were saying she was a bloke.”

Jacobson said that after he was released from custody, he broke in the door of Ms Fell’s unit and threatened to “smash” her.

“I yelled out, ‘You didn’t tell me you were actually a man,” he said.

Jacobson said he slapped Ms Fell, who tumbled over a railing to the floor below and was knocked out.

He has since pleaded guilty to breaking and entering to commit assault occasioning actual bodily harm on Ms Fell and is in custody awaiting sentence.

The hearing continues.

Teacher Of The Week

February 22, 2008

Natasha SizowPersonally, I hated high school. Food fights. Homework. Pop-quizzes. Perpetual detention. I was all to happy to graduate and get out of that hell. I may have appreciated it more if I had a nude teacher:

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - A Granby High School teacher who used a cell phone to send photos of herself in various stages of undress to students has been arrested.Police and court records show 24-year-old Natasha L. Sizow of Virginia Beach was charged with two counts each of indecent liberties and use of a communications device to facilitate crimes against children.Police said Sizow turned herself in to authorities Tuesday night.Major Michael O’Toole of the sheriff’s department said she was arraigned Wednesday in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for April 2. She was released on $5,000 bond.Schools spokesman Vincent Rhodes said Sizow was a first-year social studies teacher and girls’ swimming coach. She now is on unpaid leave.

Social studies? Clearly Ms. Sizow missed her calling as a sex ed teacher. Where’s MY nude teacher? Life is unfair. You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video Source WAVY.COM - Teacher accused of sending improper photos to students

Be Wary Of Ben & Jerry

February 19, 2008

Ben And JerryBoycott anyone? Here’s the latest “scoop” of laughable, left-wing support coming from the People’s Republic of Vermont:

BURLINGTON, Vt. - The founders of Ben & Jerry’s endorsed Barack Obama on Monday, and lent his Vermont campaign two “ObamaMobiles” that will tour the state and give away scoops of “Cherries for Change” ice cream.”If there was ever a need for real change, and if there ever was a candidate to inspire us and make that happen, it’s now,” said Ben Cohen.Added Jerry Greenfield: “Barack is showing that when you lead with your values and follow what you have inside that good things will happen.”Echoing Obama, Greenfield said he and Cohen succeeded when they opened their ice cream shop 30 years ago in Burlington by doing things differently, instead of copying the “tired ways” of doing business.”What we saw is that when you want real change it’s not a marketing slogan. You have to do things differently. And that is not going to be done by someone who’s been involved in the system for years and years,” Greenfield said. “It needs to come from inside and Barack Obama has it.”Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and his wife joined the ice cream duo to announce their radio campaign backing the Illinois senator.Cohen initially supported John Edwards, who dropped out of the race earlier this month.Rob Hill, director of the Vermonters for Obama campaign, said he looked forward to getting behind the wheel of one of the two ObamaMobiles - retrofitted Honda Elements.

Wachoo Talkin’ Bout Willis?

February 19, 2008

Gary ColemanFamed child actor-turned-security guard Gary Coleman has resorted to some Diff’rent Strokes of his own recently. Coleman has admitted to “The Insider” that he has not had sex with his wife, despite their marriage in August:

And in an interview with “Inside Edition,” the couple said they fight so much that “yes,” bride Shannon Price has feared for her safety.

But by now, she said, “I’m used to it.”

The police were even called during one domestic dispute and cited Coleman.

Fortunately for the troubled Colemans, pastor Paul Wirth of the Relevant Church in Ybor City, Florida, has the solution to marital bliss:

A Florida church issued a challenge for its married members on Sunday: Have sex every day.

Relevant Church head pastor Paul Wirth said the 50 percent divorce rate was the catalyst for The 30-Day Sex Challenge.

The church set up a Web site concerning the challenge, Local 6 reported.”And that’s no different for people who attend church,” Wirth said. “Sometimes life gets in the way. Our jobs get in the way.”Oh, and the flip side of the challenge? No rolling in the sheets for the unwed.Church member Tim Jones and his fiancee agreed to take on the challenge, though he acknowledges it’ll be a tough month. But he added: “I think it’s worth trying to find out other things about each other.”

Obama, Osama, Oh Crap…

February 19, 2008

Just last week, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews was humping presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s leg. This week, he’s confusing him with Osama bin Laden:

The latest instance of a major cable outlet confusing Sen. Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden comes from MSNBC tonight. At the beginning of Hardball with Chris Matthews, a graphic titled “Words About Words” featured an image of bin Laden. The story Matthews teased was about the Obama speech being called into question for “plagiarism.”

Matthews apologized 15 minutes later: “You may have noticed the graphic over my shoulder. A picture we showed over our shoulder, that was a mistake earlier in the broadcast. We apologize for the error.”

Chris Matthews Humps Obama’s Leg

February 13, 2008

Hardly a month ago, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews nauseated television viewers with a winding, bloviating, and grossly unnecessary ode to Hillary Clinton:

“Yes, Hillary Clinton won tremendous respect from the country for the way she handled the difficult months in 1998. Her public approval numbers spiked from the mid-40s up to the 70s in one poll I looked at. Why? Because she stuck to her duty. She performed strongly as First Lady. She did such a whale of a job campaigning for Senate candidates, especially Chuck Schumer of New York, that she was urged to run for a Senate seat there herself. She might have well have gotten that far by another route and through different circumstances, but this is how it happened.”

In an unsettling turn of events, Chris Matthews has confessed that he is no longer a breast man. Indeed, he’s a leg man:

“I have to tell you, you know, it’s part of reporting this case, this election, the feeling most people get when they hear Barack Obama’s speech. My, I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don’t have that too often. No, seriously. It’s a dramatic event. He speaks about America in a way that has nothing to do with politics. It has to do with the feeling we have about our country. And that is an objective assessment.”

My objective assessment is that Chris Matthews is creepy.

While this dialog is disturbing enough, we can all appreciate the fact that Matthews held back any further description of this Freudian revelation. MSNBC would quickly discover that V-Chips have blocked subsequent election coverage in fear of soft-core porn banter. Scores of Liberals would be devoid of feeling-fueled, pointless rhetoric, and “Hardball” would take on an entirely new meaning.

Alas, we can be appreciative of the fact that Chris Matthews was not present at Martin Luther King’s impassioned “I Have A Dream” speech. Otherwise, he may have left a stain.

One thing is for certain: We as a nation need pay attention to thrills and other things running up our legs. Such a feeling may have led Sen. Larry Craig to do his infamous little bathroom stall tap dance. Food for thought…

Oh, and Chris? Take some Mirapex and shut up.

Madam Rodham?

February 11, 2008

Hey kids, how many euphemisms can you find in this post?

It appears that MSNBC is up to its old tricks again. This time, anchor David Shuster is in the hot seat for his latest ejaculation, in which he suggested that the Clinton campaign had “pimped out” daughter Chelsea for campaign tricks. In response, Clinton’s communication director, Howard Wolfson bitched to the media, suggesting that the comment was “‘beneath contempt’ and disgusting.”

Such looseness in the media is difficult to swallow, and as such, jeopardizes subsequent debates on the network. Hillary was scheduled to be whored out again on February 26th, in which she would pander to an audience in a debate with Barack Obama (The Big “O”). The comment has likely blown that debate, and any future debates on the network. Hillary’s campaign is now forced to walk the streets, lusting after another venue in which higher standards would be kept.

On a side note, no solicitations for apology were ever made over Keith Olberman, who would consistently get his nut with attacks against the Bush administration.

Hillary’s Problems With Bill

February 11, 2008

…no not that Bill… the rent bill:

PORTSMOUTH - Rochester physician Terry Bennett said he rented a city building to people who worked for Sen. Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign - and skipped town without paying the bill.

Making matters worse, Bennett said, the 3,000-square-foot building at 236 Union St. was left trashed. Campaign signs were left lying all over the place, he said.

“It’s a very nice little building, with an 1,800-foot warehouse and the rest can be offices,” Bennett said. “There’s a full kitchen and bath. They used it as a campaign center and dormitory. I expected them to hand the Realtor a check as they left. They did not.”

Bennett said he wanted to be fair. The tenants contacted him and said they wanted the building for five days before the New Hampshire primary, which was held Jan. 8.

Realtor Michael Whitney said arrangements for the rental were made by Emily Walsh, who, Whitney said, corresponded with him from a Clinton campaign e-mail address. A New Hampshire woman named Emily Walsh has a blog written on Clinton’s campaign Web site. She is listed on the Web site as a resident of Manchester. An Emily Walsh from Manchester has also been named a 1st Congressional District delegate for the Democratic National Convention to be held in Denver, Colo.

Calls and e-mails from the Herald to Kathleen Strand, Clinton’s New Hampshire spokeswoman, were not immediately returned. E-mails and attempts to reach Walsh by phone, as well as calls to a woman who picked up the keys from Whitney, were not returned.

The Herald also made a call to Clinton’s national campaign headquarters in Arlington, Va. A woman reached in the press office said she would try to get someone who could respond, but there was no response.

Neither Bennett nor Whitney knew how many people actually stayed in the building. The rent charged was $100 a day, for a total of $500.

Whitney, with the firm of Keller Williams Coastal Realty, confirmed the building was not left in good condition.

“We had to pick up after them,” he said.

Whitney said he has been trying to collect rent for four weeks.

“I sent about 20 e-mails,” said Whitney. “I hear the Clinton campaign is out of money. Maybe the woman got laid off. I called, but they will not return any of my calls.”

This week, national news reports said Hillary Clinton loaned her campaign $5 million of her personal fortune. Bennett said he finds it hard to believe she can’t afford $500.

When the group did not give him a check for the amount up front, as per the agreement, Whitney said, he gave them the benefit of the doubt.

“But they packed up and left,” he said.

“They left enough trash for a small army,” said Bennett. “We filled two of those big black trash bags with what they left. There might still be a 4×8 Hillary sign there we pulled off the fence.”

Bennett said he bought the building about five or six years ago.

It makes perfect sense to me. Someone that can’t pay a tip would also have a problem paying rent.

“Jena 6″ Member Arrested

February 11, 2008

Paging Rev. Sharpton… Rev. Sharpton. Will you please pick up the white courtesy phone?

One of the “Jena Six” defendants was arrested yesterday for allegedly assaulting a fellow student at a Texas high school. Bryant Purvis, 19, was busted on the misdemeanor charge following an 8:30 AM altercation at Hebron High School in Carrollton, where his family relocated from Louisiana. According to the below arrest warrant affidavit, Purvis assaulted a male student he apparently suspected of vandalizing his auto. Along with choking the 18-year-old victim, the 6′ 6″ Purvis allegedly slammed the teenager’s head on a table. Purvis, pictured in the mug shot at right, was briefly jailed before being released on $1000 bond. Purvis and five codefendants were originally charged with attempted murder in connection with the December 2006 beating of a white high school student in Jena, Louisiana. The case, which triggered protests over the severity of charges brought against the so-called Jena Six, remains pending, with Purvis scheduled for a March trial on reduced charges of aggravated battery and conspiracy. If convicted of those felonies, Purvis could face a maximum of more than 20 years in prison.
