UN Climate Talks To Produce More Hot Air

December 2, 2008

cop14_1_1_700 If you think doing nothing about global climate change will lead to global warming, you should see how bad doing something about it is.  A global conference called the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, being held in Poland from December 1-12, is expected to create 13,000 tonnes of carbon.

That estimate is based on a turnout of 8,000 people, but as of Sunday 10,657 people had registered for the talks.

Poland, which is hosting the meeting, “plans to offset the total emissions resulting from the conference once a final calculation has been made,” the UNFCCC said.

Under offsets, anyone emitting carbon can invest in a scheme that mitigates the pollution by the same amount.

If you really want to do something about carbon emissions, just stop breathing.

Gore To Obama: GFY

November 13, 2008

al_gore_1 Barack Obama promised to create a White House “Climate Czar” position for Chicken Little protégé Al Gore back in April, but Gore isn’t interested in the postion.

“Former Vice President Gore does not intend to seek or accept any formal position in government,” Gore spokeswoman Kalee Kreider said. “He feels very strong right now that the best thing for him to do is to build support for the bold changes that we have to make to solve the climate crisis.”

Government positions don’t pay as much as international climate crusader roles do, so Gore would probably have a hard time paying for the extravagant lifestyle he has been accustomed to, let alone the “carbon offsets” required to protect the world from Gore’s consumption.
